A Hybrid Robotic Performance Project

00: Founder statement

Songwriters, composers and artists should not be limited by the availability, willingness or physical limits of individual musicians.

I am creating this project so that artists can bring a work to the stage without depending on whether individual musicians are available, willing or technically able to perform it.

The project will develop hybrid robotic performers that can be controlled live, programmed in advance, or operated through both methods within the same performance. They must execute the score, timing, dynamics, articulation, phrasing, movement and stage behaviour defined by the artist, consistently and to the highest professional standard.

Where the work requires it, the robotic performers must also be able to exceed conventional human speed, endurance, synchronisation and repeatability.

Human musicians remain welcome collaborators, but the work must not depend on their participation in order to exist or be performed.

02: Project details

A creator-controlled performance system.

Designed for songwriters, composers and multidisciplinary artists.

Purpose
Enable artists to create and perform work without making its existence dependent on a conventional ensemble.
Control modes
Live control, advance programming, or a validated combination of both methods within the same performance.
Artist authority
The artist defines the score, tempo, timing, dynamics, articulation, phrasing, movement, position and stage cues.
Execution standard
Repeatable performance, acoustic verification, version control and traceable rehearsal and show records.
System architecture
Musical commands are translated into validated motion and executed by dedicated real-time control systems.
Safety
Independent emergency stop, force limits, monitored zones and defined behaviour after faults or communication loss.

03: Development programme

2027 to 2028 onwards.

First working unit

Build and validate the first performer, artist control workflow, acoustic feedback and safety architecture.

2028

Closed rehearsals

Develop original repertoire, refine the four performer chamber and verify complete performance sequences.

2028 onwards

Controlled presentation

Present the project publicly after artistic, technical, venue and safety requirements are approved.
